Marcy Tanger receives Dorothy Richardson Resident Leadership Award from NeighborWorks America and NeighborWorks of Western Vermont

West Rutland, VT — NeighborWorks America and NeighborWorks of Western Vermont in West Rutland today announced that Mount Holly Resident, Marcy Tanger is a recipient of the 2014 Dorothy Richardson Resident Leadership Award, an honor that this year recognizes eight leaders from around the country for their outstanding contributions to their communities.

NeighborWorks America announced the honorees during its Community Leadership Institute, an event that strengthens the skills of local leaders.

“Marcy Tanger and all of the Dorothy Richardson award recipients created opportunities to strengthen their communities,” said Chuck Wehrwein, acting chief executive officer of NeighborWorks America.  “Each of the honorees shows tremendous leadership and a proactive spirit.”

Tanger’s hard work volunteering with NeighborWorks H.E.A.T. Squad shows in the numbers. Thirty-eight of the 56 homeowners in Mount Holly who have completed energy improvements said that Tanger had a direct impact on their decision. The energy improvements helped save these homeowners an estimated 19,729 gallons of heating fuel each year, adding up to about $75,000.

“Marcy’s passion for her friends and neighbors and community, her tireless work connecting with residents and encouraging them to weatherize their homes, is what makes Marcy such a special, and effective community leader” said Ludy Biddle, NWWVT director said. “She really cares about improving the quality of life of those in her community.”

The recognition was named for a Pittsburgh-based pioneer in the community-development movement who was the leading force behind the creation of the agency that eventually became NeighborWorks America.

NeighborWorks America, which creates opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives and strengthen their communities, supports a network of more than 240 nonprofits, located in every state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. NeighborWorks of Western Vermont is a member organization of NeighborWorks America.
